On April 15, 1983, Pope John Paul II said to the Bishops of USA: "I would ask you once again for your zealous pastoral and collegial solicitude to help ensure that these norms as well as the norms regulating the First Confession of the Children are understood and properly applied. Children too must be initiated in them. Parents, teachers and priests need to prepare the children. With this in mind, I have prepared this booklet. It is my earnest desire that children remember the first confession they make and the communion they receive. They are going to be the models for their lives. May they experience the personal love of Jesus present in the Holy Sacraments. May the little ones become more like Jesus. I am happy that this booklet is coming out in the year of the Golden Jubilee of Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore.
